I’m pretty sure that my top 10 lost of favorite Naruto characters wouldn’t match that of anyone else in the universe. Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Itachi, Gaara, Minato, Jiraiya, Deidara… None of those folks make my list. Seriously. So when a rare Naruto figure comes out that is one of my favorite characters, I stand up and take notice. It doesn’t happen often, but it did in 2013, when Banpresto released the Naruto Shippuden DX Sasori figure. Does this figure of the greatest puppet master ever win my approval? Read on for the review…Continue Reading→
When MegaHouse announced earlier this year that they were going to start releasing Naruto Shippuden GEM Series figures, there was much rejoicing. Despite the enormous fan following that the Naruto manga and anime have, there’s relatively little high-end merchandise available out there for many of the characters–something collectors are hoping MegaHouse will remedy!
To begin, though, they’re starting with a popular character who’s no stranger to figures–Hatake Kakashi!Continue Reading→
Considering the sheer amount of SH Figuarts Dragon Ball Z news and coverage I post on this site, I figured was time to add a review into the mix. When you’re being asked to fork over a minimum of close to forty bucks for one action figure, the main question on anyone’s mind is going to be “Are these S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ball Z figures actually any good?” To answer that question, today I’ll be looking at one of the most popular (and cheapest) figures in the line–it’s the SH Figuarts Dragon Ball Z Super Saiyan Goku review!Continue Reading→
Optimus Prime. Megatron. Bumblebee. Prowl. Starscream. Tigertrack. One of these things is not like the other. And if what you’re talking about is characters already released as Takara Transformers Masterpiece toys, the surprising answer is “Bumblebee”. That’s right, the Z-List Transformer Tigertrack actually exists as a Masterpiece Transformer already.
Is the Japan exclusive Transformers Masterpiece Tigertrack MP-12T worth his hefty price tag?Continue Reading→
At some point over the last year or two, my love for Transformers toys slowed while my adoration of the Transformers comic books really bloomed. I haven’t bought a ton of Transformers toys this year, but Hasbro got my attention by combining both these elements of Transformers lore in new Transformers Classics-style figure and comic book packs! My first target: Transformers Generations Trailcutter (AKA The Autobot formerly known as Trailbreaker)!Continue Reading→
I love me some Street Fighter III. I know it’s not cool to say that your favorite Street Fighter characters aren’t from Street Fighter II, but every single one of the original 16 Street Fighter II characters bore me to tears. Characters from Street Fighter III and the Street Fighter Alpha series are where it’s at, baby! That’s why, even though I am a huge fan of Street Fighter figures, I ended up passing on the first four Square-Enix Street Fighter IV Play Arts Kai figures. But when Square-Enix announced Ibuki last fall, they placed a strangle-hold on my wallet and my soul. Finally, Street Fighter IV Play Arts Ibuki has come home…Continue Reading→
Last week I lauded the Pokemon D-Arts Mewtwo figure as the greatest Pokemon action figure ever made. Unfortunately for Mewtwo, it’s a short-lived tenure at the top, as the second D-Arts Pokemon figure was released just a few weeks after him, and has already usurped Mewtwo’s top spot! He’s the fully-evolved form of one of the Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow starters and among the most popular Pokémon of all time: known as Lizardon in Japan, it’s the Pokemon D-Arts Charizard figure!Continue Reading→
When I was in high school, I pretty much wanted to smack every kid in the face who used Mewtwo on his Pokémon video game team. Mewtwo was obnoxious and overpowered in the old days, and I spent an unbelievable amount of my 1600+ hours of playing Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow training Pokemon specifically to deal with Mewtwo. So I don’t exactly have warm and fuzzy feelings towards the first “most powerful Pokemon ever”. What I do have uncontrollable love for is action figures, however. So when Bandai announced the super-articulated Pokémon D-Arts figures line with Mewtwo as the first figure? Yep–Bandai had my 60 bucks instantly. Was Mewtwo worth it?Continue Reading→
I really, really waited a long time for good Megaman figures. Oh yeah, Bandai put out some interesting Megaman figures in the 90’s, but those are really dated and obsolete now. And Jazwares put out a good number of Megaman toys, but notice I stressed the word “good”. With the success of the Archie Comics Megaman Comic Book, I thought some American company might finally do right by the Megaman license, but thus far that’s proven not to be. However, Bandai has recently stepped up in Japan, releasing an all-new D-Arts Megaman figure for Megaman’s 25th Anniversary, and it’s one of my favorite figures I’ve bought all year…Continue Reading→
I’m not nearly as big a Transformers fan as I used to be, but every so often Hasbro will release some new Transformers toy that really resonates with my soul and is a buy-on-sight item. One such item turned up last week. I was aware that a new Transformers Voyager Blaster was out, but until I actually came face-to-face with him, I didn’t know he was coming home with me. Once I saw the Fall of Cybertron Transformers Generations Blaster and Steeljaw set, Blaster’s nostalgic G1-inspired colors and design won me over and earned my purchase. As for Steeljaw, well… at least Blaster is good…Continue Reading→
